Terms of Service & SMS Terms
Draft terms for an introduction-only project connecting individual adults across the U.S.–Canada border.
1. About Lifeline US
“Lifeline US” is a working project name for a website intended to help individual Canadian adults describe practical household needs and potentially connect with individual American adults interested in purchasing items from an Amazon.ca wishlist.
The website is not a corporation, registered nonprofit, charity, tax-exempt organization, social-service agency, emergency service, fiduciary, broker, marketplace, retailer, or government program. It does not accept charitable donations, issue tax receipts, hold funds or goods, or purchase products for participants.
2. Acceptance and eligibility
By accessing the site or submitting a form, you acknowledge these Terms and the Privacy notice. Requesters must be at least 18 years old, currently live in Canada, and be legally able to participate. Do not use the service if you do not agree with these Terms.
3. Introduction-only role
The site may collect a request, communicate with a requester, and help introduce individual adults. The site does not become a party to their relationship or to any Amazon purchase. Unless a later written policy expressly says otherwise, the operator does not guarantee that a requester, supporter, identity, need, wishlist, product, delivery address, or statement has been independently verified.
Each participant is responsible for personal judgment, safety, communications, privacy settings, account security, purchases, taxes, cross-border consequences, and compliance with retailer rules and applicable law.
4. No guarantee of assistance
Submitting a request does not guarantee acceptance, a response, an introduction, a match, a purchase, delivery, replacement, continued support, or any particular result. Supporters decide independently whether and what to purchase. Either participant may decline or end contact.
5. Personal gifts; no tax benefit
An item voluntarily purchased by a supporter is a personal transaction or gift between individuals through a third-party retailer. No payment is made to Lifeline US. The website does not issue receipts or represent that a purchase qualifies for a charitable deduction or other tax benefit.
6. Safety and prohibited conduct
You agree not to:
- request or send cash, gift cards, cryptocurrency, account credentials, financial details, government identification, medical records, or other sensitive information;
- misrepresent your identity, age, location, circumstances, relationship, needs, or wishlist;
- harass, threaten, discriminate against, exploit, deceive, or pressure another participant;
- use participant information for advertising, lead generation, resale, public posting, surveillance, or an unrelated purpose;
- request unlawful, dangerous, controlled, or inappropriate products;
- attempt to compromise the website, forms, accounts, or third-party services; or
- use the service for unlawful activity.
If an interaction appears suspicious, stop communicating. The website is not able to investigate emergencies or provide professional safety services.
7. Third-party services
The site may use or link to Formspree, Amazon.ca, email providers, telecommunications providers, AdoptCanada.org, and other third-party services. Each service has its own terms, privacy practices, eligibility rules, prices, availability, fees, and security controls. Lifeline US is not affiliated with Amazon and does not control or guarantee any third-party service.
8. Disclaimers
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the site and introduction service are provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties concerning accuracy, availability, identity, safety, conduct, suitability, purchase, delivery, or outcome. Nothing on the site is legal, tax, financial, medical, housing, or social-service advice.
9. Responsibility and legal limits
Each participant is responsible for their own conduct and decisions. The final Terms must be revised by qualified counsel to identify the operator and include enforceable responsibility, dispute, liability, and consumer-protection provisions suitable for the jurisdictions involved. Nothing in this draft attempts to waive rights that cannot lawfully be waived.
10. SMS Terms
Program description
If you separately opt in, the people operating Lifeline US may send conversational and request-related text messages about your inquiry, request, possible introduction, safety notices, or participation. SMS is optional and promotional messages are not authorized unless separately and lawfully consented to.
Consent
You opt in only by entering your own mobile number and checking the separate SMS consent box. Consent is not a condition of submitting a request, receiving information by email, participating, or receiving an introduction. You represent that you are the subscriber or customary user of the number and are authorized to consent.
Frequency and charges
Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply under your wireless plan. Lifeline US does not charge a separate SMS fee.
Opting out
Reply STOP to an incoming message to opt out. Other reasonable requests that clearly communicate a desire to stop should also be honoured. A single non-promotional confirmation may be sent after an opt-out. You may also email info@lifelineus.org.
Help and identification
Reply HELP for help or email info@lifelineus.org. Messages must appropriately identify the sender and provide any consent, contact, and unsubscribe information required by applicable Canadian or U.S. law.
Delivery and privacy
Delivery is not guaranteed and may be affected by your device, carrier, location, filtering, or service availability. Mobile numbers and consent records are handled as described in the Privacy notice and should not be sold or shared for another party's independent marketing.
11. Changes and ending access
The operator may update, suspend, or discontinue the site, introduction process, or messaging program. Material changes should be posted with a revised effective date. Participants may stop using the service at any time and may revoke SMS consent as described above.
12. Governing law and operator identity
Required before launch: identify the individual operator or future entity, business or mailing address, privacy contact, governing law, dispute venue, and effective date with qualified Canadian and U.S. legal advice.
13. Contact
Questions about these Terms or messaging may be sent to info@lifelineus.org. Confirm that this mailbox exists and is monitored before launch.
